Senior Sunny Russell is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten Rifle selection.

Shawn Eichorst’s monthly Talk to the Director of Athletics radio show on Sports Nightly covered a lot of bases Tuesday night. The show’s opening segment focused on the Nebraska football and volleyball programs, both of which have qualified for postseason action. Eichorst also shared his thoughts on Nebraska’s double Big Ten Championship soccer team; the Huskers’ men’s and women’s basketball teams and their participation in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge; and Husker volleyball, which will host four rounds of NCAA Regional competition in the next two weekends.
Each month, Eichorst invites a Nebraska head coach and at least one student-athlete from a sport that does not have its own radio show to be interviewed by Greg Sharpe, the voice of Nebraska football, Husker baseball and the host of Sports Nightly. Tuesday night’s special guests were Nebraska Rifle Coach Stacy Underwood and senior Rifle shooter Sunny Russell, the current president of the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The Husker Rifle Team recently upset Ohio State in its final match of the fall season and now ranks No. 5 in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Poll.
For your convenience, we split the show’s audio into four segments. I recommend that Husker fans take the time to listen beyond the first segment, which includes Eichorst’s description of the postseason bowl process. Bowl match-ups will be announced Sunday and once those decisions have been made, ticket information will be posted on Huskers.com. Eichorst also shared how he has reached out and listened carefully to Big Red football fans throughout the season. He has analyzed their feedback and put together Athletic Department teams to tackle planned major enhancements to the overall fan experience inside Memorial Stadium in 2014.
Eichorst’s next radio show is scheduled for January 7, 2014. The show will feature Nebraska Wrestling Coach Mark Manning and two of his top student-athletes.
